Linkerd offers a lighter alternative to Istio, focusing on simplicity and performance. Its Rust-based data plane proxies introduce negligible latency. We recommend Linkerd for clusters that primarily need mTLS encryption and "Golden Signal" metrics (success rate, traffic, latency) without the configuration overhead of Istio.
